Presentation
visuals can be made in a variety of ways, some of which involve
label printers. However, let's start by discussing what a presentation
visual is.
When we think
of presentations we typically think of PowerPoint or overhead slides.
However flip charts are still commony used because, in some situations
they offer a number of advantages. This page discusses visuals that
are a part of a flip chart presentation.
The advantage
of flip charts is that they can be used anywhere--no electricty
is needed, nor is a projector needed. You can use flips charts on
the floor of a manufacturing facility or at a remote Boy Scout camp.
Flips charts can be used in corporate budget meetings and local
PTO meetings. They are flexible and versatile.
Six tips for creating
great flip charts
1. Organize
your materials. Know what important points need to be presented,
and what thoughts and ideas you want to communicate to your audience.
Make sure your individual flip charts, as well as the entire series
of flip charts, flows in a manner that is orderly and understandable
to your audience.
2. Design your
flipchart on your computer. Experiment with the layout, graphics
and text to achieve the desired results. Print 8-1/2 x 11 pages
and practice with those before making the full size printouts.
3. Use your
Poster Printer to print in readable colors. Color will grab the
audience's eye and focus their attention to your presentation. To
enhance your flip chart use a colored marker or labeler to add accent,
but don't overdo it, keep it simple by using only two or three colors.
A poster printer makes monochrome pages--lettering and graphics
in one color on a different color background. Use a label printer
to highlight important ares with different color text, graphics
and backgrounds.
4. Keep your
flipchart pages simple. Don't distract your audience with too much
information on one page. Each page should be used to make a single
point. Remember that a flipchart is a visual aid to your presentation,
it should not be your entire presentation.
Use your flip
chart as a aid to help you remember the points you want to discuss.
Be sure that all of the key points of your presentation are prominently
included on your flip chart pages.
5. Make letters
bold and large. The recommended minimum height is 2 inches tall.
The larger the audience for your presentation, the larger the lettering
and graphics should be (as well as the page size). Leave plenty
of white space on each page of your flip chart. Your flip chart
needs to be readable by every member of your audience.
6. Reprint pages
that need to be updated or changed. If you make a mistake or need
to update a flipchart with new information, most poster printers
(we are familiar with the Varitronics ProImage line of poster printers)
print flipcharts so quickly and inexpensively that making replacements
is not a problem.
